Darius, doesn’t know his last name, only that he is an adopted son of a king, and that should be lucky, it should be. Brought to take care of his two older brothers also collected by the king, they fight for normalcy under a cruel father. On a trip back from a campaign, Darius hears a far off sound that will throw him into the world, he didn’t know existed. Become aware of a man whom he will forever create the love of the ages with, and obtain a title that will lead him beyond his wildest imagination.
The journey has to start somewhere, and Darius’s has just begun. This isn’t a one-time book where you get a taste of another’s life and are left wanting more. You will find clues, nuances, and subtleties to future events. You will become part of his world, written in first person with about seventy percent dialog, it is written to include the reader and make you part of his life.

Content Warning This story includes talk of dubious consent, violence, and scenes of an explicit, adult nature between consenting adults and is intended only for an 18+ audience.

Okay...yes. There are some editing issues, and the POV can be a bit difficult to read. But I have to give this a strong 4 stars because of the story. I am hoping for a little more action in the next installment, but I will be adding it to my collection now. I actually read this book in one sitting...and it is a solid 8.5 hours book.

While the love story was frustrating for me to read, I believe it is leading to something special in the future. I don't go into details about storylines in my reviews, but this one did keep me entertained. I felt for the characters...their pasts, their hurts, and their joys.

This was a new author for me, but I was pleasantly surprised and the technical mistakes were not enough to distract from the overall experience. Happy reading!

The Chronicles of Darius Slave Rising Dagger of Destiny Book 1 edition by Jess Thomas 2nd Edition Ally Editorial Services Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

This was a great story, it took me a few chapters but I fell in love with Darius and his clan. I laughed and I cried and really enjoyed this first story and look forward to seeing how Darius and his family evolve with new challenges.
I’m not a great book reviewer and don’t claim anything deep when I’m reading a book, I just tell it how I think it. I liked this book, it encompassed everything about fantasy that I liked – the characters were, for the most part wonderful but I so wished throughout the book that someone would take out two of them for being vile but that gives away too much of the story. Needless to say I enjoyed the read and plan on reading the next one.
Like the other reviewers, I believe this story is well done. Except for the editing. It's frustrating when words are spelled incorrectly, grammar is poorly done and a book is made harder to read through poor editing.

I do feel that this writer has promise. A good editor and a re-write to improve the flow of the story would make this a 5 star book, in my opinion. The characters are well developed, the world building is fairly well done and the plot line is excellent.

There is no actual MM interaction in this story, although there are allusions (very briefly) to rape. But the building tension between Darius and Finnal is sweet and just a little frustrating.

It's a worthwhile read even without the fix on the editing, but it would be an amazing read if the editing errors were fixed.
First the bad the editing. Fire the woman that edited this book. She did a terrible job. Many times your should have been you're. Check I honestly think I could have edited it better. Also there must be a separation within the chapter to let the reader know the scene has changed; the way it is right now, simply the start of the next paragraph is insufficient and detracts from the flow of the story.

Now with that out of the way.

The story itself is fantastic. Unlike the other reviewer the editing wasn't a turn off. Admittedly, had the story line sucked coupled with loss poor editing, then yes I would have stop reading. However that wasn't the case despite the poor editing I couldn't put the book down. Read it in one night, when I should have been writing a paper for class. As a matter of fact when I finished I immediately looked for book 2. It's not out yet. Can't wait to see what's next.

I think this book is the beginning of a good trilogy just needs better editing. I'll definitely be getting the next one

I would have given this story 5 stars but the editing was terrible. But luckily the story was that good to me that on that alone 4stars
I have downloaded books 1 through 5 via Unlimited, as I like to read as much of a series in one go as possible, but this one may be a struggle. I like the 3 brothers, and I like most of the characters on Eiravia, but oh my stars is this story strung out! I started to skim through the first appearance of the panther, because, okay, I get it, he is playful, big, sheds a lot, etc., etc., but please get on with the story! Poor Darius has one calamity after another, and that is starting to wear on me as well. I worry that the next 9 books are going to be more of the same, and I’m not really sure I’ll be able to slog through them if they have the same pace as book 1.

I never mind that a mystery or secret is slow to be revealed… usually… but the thing with the father is also waaaay past its reveal date. I have a difficult time accepting that the older brothers were oblivious all that time, but I was willing to put that aside for a while, but c’mon already. The attraction between Darius and Finnal is also being squeezed to death, as is the reveal of Darius and his past (I don’t even have to wait for future books to have already figured that one out).

I didn’t see as many errors as other reviewers, so perhaps this 2nd edition has resolved most of them, but yeah, a good editor should have chopped this book in half. Also, I hate the way new paragraphs are created even though the same person is still taking. You should only have a new paragraph when a different person speaks, otherwise the reader has to keep going back to figure out if a new person has entered the room or has joined into the conversation. It makes it very difficult to figure out who is speaking!
This book would benefit from an extensive rewrite to tighten its story line and correct dozens of misprints which can be distracting to the reader.
Update The latest version has been re-edited, fixing the errors I originally complained about. Kudos to the author, it is a great improvement. I recommend readers give this one a try.

The author has promise, but desperately needs a good editor and proofreader. There are plenty of good ideas in the book, but they are not presented well. This book, re-edited, could be the start of a good series. I normally wouldn't even finish a book with the number of grammatical errors as this one, but it does have a good story at it's core. I would like to be able to give a new author a higher rating, and I want to let him know he has the imagination to be a good author, but he needs to find a good editor to help him get the story out.
